Zoolander 2 to Feature Derek and Hansel as Washed-Up Models in Europe
Good news today. Not only does it seem like that rumored Zoolander sequel is definitely happening but there’s already a script for it.
“We have a script that we really like,” Derek Zoolander Ben Stiller told Metro. “So I’m hoping it’s going to happen–I just want to make sure it lives up to what fans of the first one want.”
According to a separate Metro article, Stiller wrote the script with Jen Aniston’s soon-to-be-hubby Justin Theroux (who will also direct according to IMDB), and like the first movie, the plot will center around models Derek Zoolander and Hansel (played by Owen Wilson)–except this time, it’s to be set in Europe. Hansel and Derek take Paree? We cannot wait.
Wilson and Stiller aren’t the only stars we can look forward to seeing in their memorable roles. Will Ferrell is apparently “keen to reprise his role” as fashion boss/evil genius Mugatu and that character has been written into the script.
However there are some things that will be very different.
“I don’t want to give away too much, but it’s basically Derek and Hansel ten years later. Though the last movie ended on a happy note a lot of things have happened in the meantime,” Stiller said. “Their lives have changed and they’re not really relevant anymore. It’s a new world for them.”
While Zoolander 2 hasn’t officially been green-lighted–Stiller said he gave the script to studio bosses for consideration–we can’t imagine any studio passing on it. I mean, who could resist seeing Zoolander and Hansel as washed up models in Europe??
