Trv, do you ever correct a person's speech grammar?

I know somebody who keeps saying "hence why" which has been getting on a nerve with me.
Do I approach this issue? Should I let it go?

from a english language forum (they exist) not edited

I was just providing an explanation to another post and I found myself typing "hence why;" being as pedantic as i am, I would like to make sure it's correct.

More concretely the question is: Can hence be followed by why when giving an explanation.

Ex. My teacher is boring, hence why no one likes taking her class.

(I guess "which is why" would be more correct??)

Thanks

moderators answer

Hence already means 'which is why', Wimigu, so use either one or the other:
My teacher is boring, hence no-one likes taking her class
My teacher is boring, which is why no-one likes taking her class

The version with which is why is much commoner than hence, which is a formal word rarely heard in everyday conversation.

i did not edit the first post to add the p word which i do not speak

dude obviously if its your wife you should correct her politely so people don't think she's an idiot.

but correcting a co-worker is douchey.

Are u scared of your wife charlie?

Seems like an autocorrect situation where a post wasn't needed for feedback

I just wanted to know about the properness of cirrecting someone.

After almost three years I never corrected it. I fear I reached the point of no return. I don't wanna hear "you never told me this why?"

i think the issue is you are so comfortable with someone that you can have kids and live with but you aren't comfortable correcting her phrasing.
